“is/am/are/was/were/will be +to

This type of form is used when there is a sense, that action has not been done yet and it is pending to be done. According to the tense we use the different verbs in the sentence. So, lets have a quick look on all these forms:

Present Tense

Structure 1 is/am/are + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of present and the action yet to be done in the nearest future. Here, we say these sentences in a causal way, and there is no sense of compulsion in this.

Example 1. We are to go to school.(Here, we have not gone to school yet but will be going in the nearest future.)

2. I am to eat food.

3. You are to go to meet her.

4. Is the bus to come?

5. Are we go to france?

Structure 2 : has/have + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of present and the action yet to be done in the nearest future. Here, the sense is of compulsion not causal.

Example : 1. We have to go to school.(Here, we must go to school. Suppose we could take leave cause of being sick but today it is very important test so we have to go.)

2. I have to study today full day today. (Suppose there is a exam tomorrow and you have not started preparing yet.)

3. He has to do this work right now.( Suppose the work has been pending for a long time.)

Past Tense

Structure 1 : Was/were + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of past and the action is not performed yet. Here, we say sentences in a causal way, and there is no sense of compulsion in this.

Example: 1. I was to purchase a car. (Suppose we are talking about any past condition and are saying that when he purchased bike at that time i was planning for a car or we can say i was to purchase a car at that time.)

2. We were to go to the school at 9.00AM.

3. We were to have a lunch at 13.00.

Structure 2 : had + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of past. Here, the condition is of compulsion and not in casual way. We use this type in both way whether the situation is pending to be done in past or that situation is done regularly in need.

Example : 1. I had to go to office due to some important work.(Suppose you are talking about a condition of past where your friend asks you why did you denied for movie on that saturday and then you said your boss had called for some work on saturday. So, you denied for movie.)

2. We had to go to gym everyday.( It was needed to go to the gym for fitness)

3. Rahul had to go to park in evening for rejuvenating himself.

4. They had to complete work by that day.

5. They had to complete assignment by the end of the day.

Future Tense

Structure 1 : Will be + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of future and the action is going to be happen in future(Here we are not talking about the nearest future.) Here, we say sentences in a causal way, and there is no sense of compulsion in this.

Example : 1. I will be to go.

2. I will be to do work.

3. You will be to come tomorrow.

4. I will be to go office tomorrow as tomorrow is monday.

Structure 2 : Will have + to :: we use this structure when the situation is of future and the action is going to be happen in future(Here we are not talking about the nearest future.) Here, the situation is of compulsion and not in the causal way.

Example : 1. We will have to study hard as exams are near.

2. I will have to go for dinner tonight as there is no one in house for making food.

3. We will have to go there own as everyone is busy in their work.

4. I will have to do all these alone. No one is with me.
